Amanda Gosman, MD
Amanda A. Gosman, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in cleft lip and palate surgery, pediatric and adult craniofacial surgery, microsurgical facial reanimation, breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Gosman is chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where she also directs the Plastic Surgery Residency Program and the Craniofacial Fellowship Program. As chief, she develops and implements a robust academic and clinical strategic plan for the Division and its related programs. A professor of the Department of Surgery, Dr. Gosman conducts research on craniofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, plastic surgery outcomes, telemedicine and international health.
She is also the chief of plastic surgery and director of the Fresh Start Clinic for Craniofacial Anomalies at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, where she performs reconstructive surgeries for children.
Dr. Gosman completed her fellowship in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery and her residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern. She also completed a one-year fellowship in international plastic surgery with ReSurge International (formerly Interplast). She earned her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Gosman has extensive experience providing health care and education to underserved communities around the world. She has successfully utilized telemedicine technology to overcome logistical barriers to international health care and education through ConnectMed International, a nonprofit organization that she founded in 2010 to provide free reconstructive surgeries and education to underserved communities around the world.
She has lectured internationally on craniofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, breast surgery, plastic surgery safety and outcomes, international health and telemedicine. Dr. Gosman has authored multiple publications and is co-editor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open.
Dr. Gosman has received many awards for her commitment to improving the health care of children and adults in her community and around the world. She was honored with the inaugural UC San Diego Health Sciences Women Leadership Award in 2021. Dr. Gosman has served in many national leadership roles including the chair of the Ethics Committee for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
