Benjamin Abbadessa, MD

Benjamin Abbadessa, MD, is a board-certified colorectal surgeon who treats colon cancer, anal cancer, colon polyps, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, anal fistula, anal fissure, hemorrhoids, anal abscess, fecal incontinence, rectal prolapse, anal dysplasia and anal skin tags.

As an associate professor in the Department of Surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Abbadessa trains medical students, residents and fellows. He also conducts research related to robotic surgery for rectal cancer, minimally invasive colorectal surgery, inflammatory bowel disease, anal dysplasia and fecal incontinence.

Dr. Abbadessa completed a residency in colon and rectal surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida and one in surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, where he was chief resident. He earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in New York. He is board certified in surgery as well as colon and rectal surgery.

Dr. Abbadessa is an editorial reviewer for Surgical Endoscopy. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons as well as several other professional organizations.
